Agriculture

The Yakama Indian Reservation is part of the fifth largest producer of fruits and vegetables in the country. There are 103,465 irrigatable acres located within the reservation's boundaries. The Yakama Nation's Land Enterprise Program acquires land and develops agriculture. It has improved three producing orchards and anticipates the planting of an additional 200 acres of apples and soft fruits. Picking, thinning, and pruning crews are hired throughout the year. Presently, approximately 15,811.6 acres of idle land are available for agricultural production. Development Projects are being designed to marry the tribe's agricultural roots with modern-day growing, processing, and distribution technology.
